This land record portal is popularly known as Banglarbhumi () in the state. The Land and Land Reforms Department of Government of West Bengal has setup an online portal for this with the help of NIC. Land digitization of West Bengal is progressing under Government of India’s NLRMP program. Like other states in India West Bengal state government has also started digitization of land records (Bhulekh). A Superintendent of Land Record is also posted to each district headquarters to look after the day-to-day activities of the department locally under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner. The Land Record Department is being looked after by two Deputy Commissioners who are also in charge of the CDO’s office in their respective districts. In this process, villages were selected for survey operations by drawing lots from a bag. In the year 1876, the Bengal Survey Settlement Operations started from Rangpur Division as a part of which West Bengal was divided into eight blocks as per an agreement with the then government of Assam. The Records and Land Directorate has got a long history of land records, land surveys and settlement operations. West Bengal Land Records and Lands Directorate was established on 1 November 1806.
